Leave No Trace
I am surprised at how many people are willing to hike far, really far, and then are so frickin’ lazy once they get to their camp. I mean, c’mon people: the sign says “Leave No Trace” and “No Camping Within 100 ft of Water.” That means carefully dig a deep hole for your poo-poo, pack out ALL trash, leave nothing behind but footprints, and realize that your very presence in the wilderness has an effect on the environment (this means NO camping within 100 feet of the water supply, which is in effect so that you don’t go pee-pee in the water that everyone is drinking). Sounds easy enough since you already expended 5,000 calories getting here. For more info about how NOT to be a dumb-ass while backpacking, check out Leave No Trace’s website.
