My 5 year-old daughter watches me draw and has patiently sat through the entire cartooning process with me now hour after hour. One morning, I came downstairs to see her giggling at a drawing she was working on. I asked her what it was. She said it was a Mommy zombie trying to hug her kids and her kids were scared. OK, so I’m either doing something right as a parent, so something terribly wrong.
So today she comes to me with this drawing, all inked and ready to scan, asking if I can “color it for her on the computer and add words.” Who can turn that down? The result is a collaborative comic about a family going to a jewelry store and the daughter noticing that one of the necklaces has a doll on it. I told her that I didn’t understand the humor in it, but I thought it was cool. She said she thought it was funny and that is all that matters. Gotta love her.
