Webcomic Reviews

Unearthed Comics is taking an indefinite hiatus, including no longer doing webcomic reviews or taking guest art. Thanks for all of your love and support!!!
It’s been awhile since my last Best Of Webcomics Interview and I’m feeling it needs more of an anecdotal intro. So here it goes: I went to college at the University of California, Santa Cruz where I took up surfing… oh, and got a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies. On the first day, I was greeted by the professor with this statement: “Welcome to the ‘Most Depressing’ major you could have chosen.” And, once I learned …
(I’ve taken a little break between my interviews for my Best Of Webcomics section for a bit, but am happy to be back with my latest installment featuring Savage Chickens.) I came across Savage Chickens one day on Twitter and was immediately drawn in by the glowing yellow backgrounds of the comics’ 3×3 sticky-notes. Doug Savage started drawing chickens on sticky-notes when he desperately needed a creative outlet and was sick of working …
According to Devin is an incredible webcomic that I found while shuffling through the gobs and gobs of talented comics featured on Tapastic. What stood out about According to Devin was how Le’s comics practically scream “fun” through bright colors, curves, movement, and precision. Those elements, plus the fact that the comics are extremely humorous, make According to Devin one of my favorite webcomics. I particularly enjoy how Le’s simple faces convey so …
Sometimes the internet can be an intimidating, and even a grumpy, place to be. That is when comics like Zen Pencils come along and put in sufficient effort to redeem the negativity of the internet with an incredibly uplifting comic. Zen Pencils is one of my favorite webcomics because of its intrinsic value of trying to make the world a better place through art and media. Zen Pencils creator, Gavin Aung …

Or perhaps it’s the precision in composition, line, humor, and artistry that creator Brian Gordon exhibits? Needless to say, Fowl Language Comics is a wonderful webcomic to follow that, despite its general focus on parenting, has a universal appeal because of the variety of adult-life humor depicted and his excellent delivery. …
One thing I love about the internet is how easy it is to find new artists and comics through existing connections. I came across Pictures in Boxes through a friend and was immediately drawn to the awesome Lego humor. I had played with Legos growing up, but don’t recall ever pretending to make the Lego men think such hilarious thoughts! Created by Davie, a talented artist and game connoisseur, Pictures in Boxes is a webcomic …
I came across 1111 Comics when the creator, Alex Wronski, reached out to me through Facebook. Talk about an all-around nice guy! After my first contact and visit to his site, I was intrigued to follow his exceptional comic. 1111 Comics provides a breath of fresh air in the webcomics world by sharing a lighter and more inspirational side to traditional webcomic topics. He does so by bringing up the questions we all ponder, such …
